Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties, making a commitment to changing the situation by seeking therapy is the next step towards happiness. Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, helping you access the ability to feel emotionally safe, connected and happy, while re-directing damaging patterns and overcome the challenges you or a loved one faces. Healthy relationships are important in all aspects of our lives.
My primary focus is in guiding people to develop their true self, address ones ability to regulate and calm themself, to end damaging behaviors, and to build strong relationships. Many relationships suffer due to the variety of challenges families face.
I typically work with children, adolescents and their parents individually and in family therapy, as well and with couples. Troublesome life events often trigger poor coping skills and cause difficulty in relationships. I’m well versed in a variety of life events and disruptions such as, anxiety, depression, the birth of a baby, adoption, children with special needs, infertility, adolescence, marriage difficulties, divorce, empty nest syndrome and end of life issues.
Additionally, I’m experienced with many disorders and frequently work with ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, Bi-polar, OCD, Adoption, Attachment, Postpartum Depression, and highly dysregulated children and adolescents. I specialize in a neurobiology psychodynamic developmental approach, which focuses on working through self regulation, relationship difficulties, and true self identities. When working with couples I primarily use the evidence based treatment approach of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
The EFT approach is a mixture of attachment, experiential and systemic based psychotherapy, which focuses on the heart of the matter in reconnecting distressed relationships. Every therapy session is unique and caters to each individual and their specific need. It is standard to discuss the primary issues and concerns in your life during therapy sessions. It is common to schedule a series of weekly sessions, where each session lasts around fifty minutes.
Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues. It is important to process what has been discussed and integrate it into your life between sessions. In some cases a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action. Working with your medical doctor, you can determine what’s best for you.
