Hope I haven't given you a headache. >> Edited by gunsynd, 29 April 2012 - 04:39 AM. @gunsynd The only way I know to launch Skyrim steamless is a cracked version because all Steam games load 3 DLLs at startup: steam.dll steamclient.dll steamapps Common Skyrim steam_api.dll (for Skyrim, otherwise the ones in the specifig game directories) One of these DLLs checks whether Steam is running and if not starts Steam. In the cracked versions the binaries and DLLs are recoded. (SKiDROW cracks don't load steam.dll and use self-written steamclient.dll and steam_api.dll) So if you would like to run Skyrim steamless you would need to use recoded binaries or DLLs and that's pretty much what cracking is. I personally like Steam because it updates your games and so on and it's compared to other copy protections very user friendly, but I can understand why people don't like to use it because the client sucks and with low bandwidth it's also not funny. If you simply don't want to use Steam because Skyrim is your only game and you use Semi Fullscreen, I have a hotfix available.

To extend Skyrim and the editor, we use a technique called DLL injection to load our code. Since this technique can also be used by viruses, some badly-written virus scanners assume that any program doing it is a virus. Adding an exception to your scanner's rules may be necessary. It is nice to see others having your problems but I want to add, that the virus scanner does not need to be badly-written because it is impossible to write a perfect virus scanner and all the warnings are suspisions. Hi guys, I just installed Skyrim from the disc for the first time after a year since playing it (my laptop has been formatted since so I had to start from scratch). So I installed it, verified the game, but the update is massive (since I basically have to download all the updates there have ever been) and I have a very limited internet usage and I simply cannot afford to do all the updates right now.

Is there any way to run the game without doing all the updates? (like I said, I did verify the game).

I tried all sorts of things, but it just won't go. I tried using the 'Skip The Launcher' mod but stlil, I keep getting the 'Game is not Ready to be Played in Offline Mode' mesage. I tried running it from the TESV.exe file (which used to be the easy way to run games in Offline mode, but not anymore), but not only is it located in the 'downloading', instead of 'common' folder, but whenever I try and open it, it says that 'Skyrim is not compatible with this version of Windows'. Not that I know of, at least not for the legal copy, it has to register on steam, the problem is it is then automatically told there is an update, so even if you stop the update it knows it needs one. Obviously once its all installed you can use the offline option, but in the meantime the only thing I can suggest if you have a bad connection is to take your pc to a friends house or internet cafe (some if you explain the issue may let you take your pc in) and use their connection just to get the files down.
